Cover Letter
Dear Miss
Cequena,
Within three months, I am able to write
comprehensive and informative essays with sufficient data with lesser mistakes
in the subject-verb agreement, with correct usage of punctuations, and
organizing thoughts in an essay form. Also, I learned to evaluate my peer's
work which helps me to gain knowledge and the abilities to improve my writing
skills.
I have a difficulty in the transitional
devices especially the chronological part because I tend to jump from one idea
to another without consistency and conciseness. It is very hard for me because
I lack unity in my supporting details which makes it unclear for my readers.
In order to achieve my goal, I simply
arrange the details in a logical manner and use transitional devices to connect
the idea sequence to the next one to emphasize my supporting details.
Patience, Perseverance, Practice and Passion
are the virtues I learned in ENGLCOM which I am proud of because it teaches me
lesson of "no pain, no gain". It allows me to be open-minded to
accept challenges which can help me to improve my abilities in reading and
writing.
Moreover, during the revision of my extended
definition essay, I learned to use specific word and abstract concept to
elaborate my ideas about my thesis statement. Also, I am able to point out the
similarities and differences of my topic.
Lastly, I improve my argumentative essay
making sure that I have a concrete side which can support my essay and convince
my readers. I also learned to state the difference of an opinion from facts
using books as my reference.
Yours
Truly,
Christelle

B. Life is full of aesthetics
So what
really is beauty? According to Merriam – Webster (2012), Beauty means the quality present in a thing or person that gives intense pleasure or deep satisfaction to the mind, whether arising from sensory manifestations.
According to Electric Physique (n.d), Beauty
sells. Beautiful people get what they want. Beauty is something everybody
wishes for, but few people receive. Today, several women and men of the society
exercise, apply cosmetics, and undergo surgical procedures to achieve their
desired look. Beautiful faces are naturally considered as a funny, gregarious,
clever, interesting, and adored people because of their physical beauty which
is likely their charm, gracefulness, allure, and elegance.
Being beautiful has good and bad sides which
affect one’s personality and perspective in life. There are five pleasures of being beautiful
such as beautiful is good, more desired, better persuaders, get paid more, and
higher self-esteem.
According to ABC News, Attractiveness
captures one’s attention completely. The perception of attractiveness can have
a significant effect on how people are judged in terms of employment or social
opportunities, friendship, sexual behavior, and marriage.
Secondly, good-looking people are better persuaders (Chaiken, 1979). Due to the
fact, that attractive people, are excellent communicators and have
self-confidence which helps them in convincing people to favor their side.
Thirdly,
according to Hamermesh (2011), he concludes that better-looking employees are
more productive, leading to higher sales and potentially higher profit. Perhaps,
pretty faces have greater potential in terms of qualifications in applying
jobs. It is no wonder why beautiful
people have higher self-esteem because in the back of their mind, numerous
people have better impressions on them no matter what they do beauty covers the
unpleasant image of their personality.
On the other hand, in every good thing there
is always a corresponding bad thing that balances the world. In relation to
beauty, beautiful faces have liabilities too, like any other person would be.
There are five pains of having a pretty face such as less likely to be hired easily, beastly,
less talented, lucky, and experiencing social rejection.
According
to Shahani-Denning (2000), beauty provides a lot of good opportunity in landing
a job but it is different when it comes to the same sex because beautiful
persons becomes a “threat” due to jealousy. One recent study has suggested that
people who are highly attractive are at a disadvantage in the hiring process
when the decision-makers are the same sex (Agthe et al., 2011).
Moreover,
beauty is beastly in the sense that they are using physical attributes, to
manipulate people in getting what she wants in order to satisfy her
self-indulgence in life. Moreover, in some cases, being a beautiful lady makes
you an arrogant person that does not bother to hear and listen in other’s point
of view because you think of yourself better and above than them.
In
addition to, life is so unfair especially when an average person is in the
vicinity of a good-looking people because they tend to outshine those less
attractive people who are more competent than them. In this case, the truly
skilled one is being ignored because people much prefers better looking guys to
show their talents.
Although
attractive people are generally more popular socially, there's some evidence
that very attractive people can experience social rejection from members of
their own sex (Krebs and
Adinolfi, 1978). Ordinary people thinks of them like a star that are
hard to reach and can only be dreamt of so they distance themselves to avoid
further embarrassment.
There
is a hanging question with regard of being successful in life. Is it because of
their talents or is it just their looks and charms? Being pretty gives you a
lot of advantages, like you could pass any interviews easily using your
appealing face and smile that can convince them without second thought.
Secondly, they always have friends willing to follow them around. And lastly,
when it comes to love, they can pick and choose from a variety of men from the
finest men in the world.
Beauty is not only measured through
physical attributes but also we should consider the inner beauty which is more
important because no matter how lovely you look, personality still counts. According
to Peter 3:3-4, Don’t be concerned about the outward beauty of fancy
hairstyles, expensive jewelry, or beautiful clothes. You should clothe
yourselves instead with the beauty that comes from within, the unfading beauty
of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is so precious to God.

B. It
also improves our lifestyle
Genetically-modified crops (GM crops) have made a big breakout in the past
several years as consumers and food producers are becoming aware of the results
of genetic modification and how this can affect health and the products they
make and eat. The plants
have altered genes and thus attributes that make them easier to farm. Some can resist pests better than natural varieties.
According to Whitman ( 2000), genetically
modified organisms are the most commonly used to refer to crop plants created
for human or animal consumption using the latest molecular biology techniques.
These plants have been modified in the laboratory to enhance desired traits
such as increased resistance to herbicides or improved nutritional content.
According to Hubpages, GMO crops provide
social, economic, and environmental benefits such as the following: It minimizes the usage of pesticides needed
to a certain plant. It increases crop productions (Shaw, 2010). It can also
decrease the number of people who are sick or ill because GMO crops are proven
nutritious and safe for our health. Moreover, it is beneficial for most of the
farmers because it increase their net income (Qaim, 2009). In terms of
environmental issue, GMO crops really helps in reducing green house gas
emission in our society (NSTA, 2007).
On the other hand, there is also a risk
using GMO crops that will truly affect human’s welfare. Here are some of the
disadvantages in using them: There is a great difference between the tastes of
GMO crops than the natural ones. According to the report (2009), the increase
in pesticide use was mainly attributed to herbicide tolerant plants with weeds
that developed resistance to the engineered herbicide in the said plants. Also,
it is more expensive than regular crops due to modification process done. Finally,
eating GMO crops may trigger and tends to form different kinds of allergies (GHC,
n.d.).
Genetically modified crops have a lot of benefits
that can solve world problem like poverty, malnutrition, and climate change
which can help the society. As wise consumers, we should be keen observers and
well-informed in purchasing our basic necessities by practicing buying GMO
crops. Through the help of modern technology, greater innovations are done in
our food in order to meet the growing demands of the people. It allows millions
of families with promising future to discover and to explore new things and
creative ideas to improve our life.

Diagnostic Essay
SOCIAL
NETWORKING SITES: REASONS WHY PEOPLE CRAZE ABOUT IT AND THEIR EFFECTS ON THEIR
SOCIAL AND PHYSICAL LIVES
(c)google.com
Now that we are living in a world
full of modern technologies, I can say people start to find alternative ways to
ease their anxiety by engaging themselves to social networking sites such as
Facebook and Twitter. Another reason why they are addicted to it is popularity
for the reason to have more friends and gain more followers. Also, they wanted
to stay connected to the people that live a thousand miles. They wanted to
explore things and go with the flow because I think if you do not have a Facebook
account you are called an old-fashioned. Lastly, the reason is for relaxation
because it offers cool stuff like games, video clips, and photos.
Unfortunately, it has a great impact
on the social life of a person. He or she tends to stay on the computer for so
long which makes him or her ignorant for the fact that there are a lot of
things needed to be accomplished. Another is that, he or she lacks time for his
or her family which is very important matter because it builds the bond among
the members of the family. And the most common thing, he or she might stay late
up night until the wee hours just to stay connected with his or her online
friends by sharing of thoughts and experiences.
About the physical effects, he or she
tends to skip meals because he or she is over enjoying the features of these
social networking sites. Based from the study, mostly they are the ones who
stay three and more hours on the computer. Furthermore, neither she nor he can
stop you to access these sites. Everything needs to be done moderately to
prevent addiction.
There is more about your academic life. As
I can view from my experience, I get lower grades because my mind is too
focusing on playing games and chatting with friends. For example, if you are to ask an average girl
if she wants to study or to post a status on Facebook, she will definitely
choose the second option because it is less effort, trendy, and most especially
she is having fun in it. No wonder our generation and the future generation will
have hard time avoiding ourselves from temptations in using these sites.
All in all, it is not bad to try new
things but keep in mind you have responsibilities as a student, role model in
the society, and a citizen. Like what other people say ‘strive harder” because
if you lose your concentration, your future is in risk. Facebook and Twitter
will be always there but the knowledge coming from your teachers are so
precious that it can make your life more meaningful and useful.
